Does the thought of answering this question make you sick to your stomach? Here are some starting points to help you answer this question without biting off the heads of your well-intentioned loved ones.โ
โ
โœ… If things are going great: "Great, thanks for asking!"โ
๐Ÿ™‚ If things are fine, but not great: "It's going alright, thanks! I'm looking forward to ___" (getting some rest over the holidays, a fresh start in the new semester...)โ
๐Ÿ˜’ Not great: "Honestly, it's been a difficult semester. I'm looking into new ways that I can better support my learning in the New Year."โ
๐Ÿ˜ญ When things are absolutely awful: "I'm not in the mood to discuss school right now, but thanks for asking!"โ
โ
... Then move on with the conversation!โ  You can always tell them about a professor or course you enjoyed, how great the school gym was, or that you were able to take the bus this year instead of having to pay for parking.โ
โ
PLEASE remember that you are under no obligation to disclose to loved ones your grades, exam results, or whether or not you even LIKE school! โœจโ
โ
When someone asks you how school is going, they are likely just trying to make light conversation on something they know is going on in your life.โ
โ
If school is currently a tough topic, why not discuss some of the things that you ARE enjoying instead?โ
โ
Happy mingling, everyone! ๐ŸŽ„โ
